Ecosystems

The base game of Monster Hunter: World has a total of five ecosytems. Each ecosystem is home to a variety of large monsters. There are various locations teeming with wildlife. Expeditions into these locales are bound to turn up interesting discoveries. The five ecosystems are Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, Coral Highlands, Rotten Vale, and Elder's Recess.

Ancient Forest is a vast forest that supports a complex ecosystem. A network of trees stretch high into the sky, creating the ancient tree that looms tall over the rest of the forest.

Wildspire Waste is a massive strip of parched land conjoined with a swampland that takes in water from the Ancient Forest. Ant colonies have built massive spires within the desert, while varied vegetation has sprung up along many watering holes. This locale is now home to creatures that take advantage of the two unique, coexisting ecosystems.

Coral Highlands is a mysterious ecological highland that mimics the ebb and flow of the ocean itself. Eggs from the corals ride upon the rising currents and spread to the rest of the New World, where they become a part of the natural food chain.

Rotten Vale is a deep valley that rests beneath the Coral Highlands. Monster corpses fall to the Vale from above, creating a layer of decomposing remains that seems to serve an important ecological role. Also unique to the Vale is the bacteria known as the effluvium, which devours organic matter.

The Elder's Recess is an uncharted land brimming with powerful energy. Its geography is dominated by mysterious, gigantic crystalline structures, but also features hazardous caverns seething with magma, some of which has cooled into stretches of uneven basalt.

Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World is a 2018 action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom. The fifth mainline installment in the Monster Hunter series, it was released worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January 2018, with a Windows version following in August 2018.

In the game, the player takes the role of a Hunter, tasked to hunt down and either kill or trap monsters that roam in one of several environmental spaces. If successful, the player is rewarded through loot consisting of parts from the monster and other elements that are used to craft weapons and armor, amongst other equipment.

The game's core loop has the player crafting appropriate gear to be able to hunt down more difficult monsters, which in turn provide parts that lead to more powerful gear. Players may hunt alone or in a group of up to four players via the game's online multiplayer.
